Worldview Connections | Module 1

How to break free from the world's economic paradigms

Executive Summary

Worldview Connections focuses on the importance of recognizing the culturally-based economic beliefs we hold to justify the agendas we choose. The session content and forum discussions aim to enable you to assess the fruit of your own economic thinking and realign your work with biblically-based principles of stewardship so that you will, in turn, yield greater productivity. Too often, worldly ideals warp our understanding of reality and trap us in a poverty mindset that hinders our growth as leaders. The module closes by addressing our need to challenge worldly thought systems and assumptions, ultimately replacing them with the wisdom of biblical economic principles.

Course Module Conversations

Below are some conversations between Dr. Simon Mould and course author Dennis Peacocke discussing relevant business and economics issues addressed in this module. These conversations provide a sample of the in-depth content available in each session.

Called to Stewardship and Fellowship
Session 1

As Christians, we know God fellowships with us through our spiritual pursuits, such as praying, reading the Bible, and attending church. But few of us think about fellowship with God through our work. In this interview, we ask author Dennis Peacocke how he came to this understanding and how our vocational call is holy and eternal.

The Economic Model of Servant Leadership and Ownership
Session 2

In this conversation, we examine the divisions in culture today that highlight the contrast between the left-right / socialist-capitalist models while presenting a different economic model of servant leadership and private ownership. The bottom line of our discussion explains why the biblical economic model is more relevant now than at any other time.

The Mind Justifies What the Heart Has Chosen
Session 3

In this conversation, we discuss how as a leader, we must understand the motivations behind the decision-making of those we lead. Engaging people rationally to change their mindsets, behavior, and outcomes is only effective when we seek to understand and speak to their motivations and heart choices first.

Exposing Assumptions
Session 4

The postmodern culture, where individuals define their own values and destiny, tends to blame external factors for one’s economic condition rather than recognizing the impact of personally held assumptions and decisions. We discuss the root of why people blame external factors rather than embracing change by admitting mistakes and taking personal responsibility. We also touch on the inability of cancel culture to accept the authentic change that occurs when people admit to their wrongdoing.

The War Between Two Seeds
Session 5

In this conversation, we discuss how the two opposing worldviews - Christianity and secular humanism have shaped the social and economic narrative throughout history. We explore how cultural ideas have dramatically shifted from a generation ago, yet they remain the same old manifestation of secular humanism but in a more emboldened form.

Freedom from Pharaoh’s Propaganda Machine
Session 6

Given the widespread consumption of digital media, we discuss how to discern and deal with biased agendas without developing a judgmental attitude toward others. We also discuss how we can, and should, understand and engage different perspectives on cultural issues by holding to our convictions and moral standards but in a winsome way.
